Introduction to MEDI BEEB Project

Between 2017 and 2019, the European Union project titled "Therapeutic Effects of Apitherapy in Higher Education - Be(e) Therapy" was carried out on the importance of Apitherapy and the need for it to take its place as a course curriculum in relevant faculties such as medicine, health and veterinary in higher education. A new problematic has been identified in this project. It has been observed that beekeepers who produce bee products used in apitherapy do not have sufficient knowledge about apitherapy, and there are beekeepers who focus only on honey production.
We have seen that beekeepers are unaware of the importance and value of propolis, bee venom, bee bread, and drone larvae, other than honey and pollen. It has been observed that honey and pollen are produced only for use in human nutrition.
The most important problem is that it has been observed that medicines use some chemicals uncontrollably and unnecessarily in order to strengthen the hive focused on producing more honey and to produce honey.
It has been observed that if beekeepers do not produce bee products under appropriate conditions and with the correct production methods and do not know the storage conditions, they will have useless or even harmful effects not only in apitherapy but also in terms of human nutrition, as the active ingredients in their content lose their effectiveness or contain some harmful chemical residues.
For these reasons ,
1- Beekeepers should be informed about apitherapy, and they should be informed about the apitherapeutic effects and contents of bee products,
2- It has been observed that beekeepers should have sufficient knowledge and equipment regarding the correct harvesting methods and storage conditions of bee products such as honey, pollen, propolis, bee bread, royal jelly, drone larvae, whole bees, bee venom, etc.
3- Authorized institutions should pay attention to this issue, especially
Raising awareness on the creation of certified beekeepers who will produce certified and controlled bee products for apitherapy,
4- Paying attention to beekeepers who produce healthy products with correct production,
5-For human and animal health and a healthy environment, it is important to teach the production of bee products at certain standards from production to market.
6-Ensuring that relevant legislators, relevant organizations and consumers are informed on the subject,
7-The vital importance of bees in pollination and the importance of bee products in terms of health are taken seriously by farmers,
**For these reasons, this project was carried out in order to fill a major gap in the subject.
